Perumal here is praised by many names as Semponnarangar, Herambar and Perarulalan. The Vimana above the sanctum sanctorum is known as Kanaga Vimanam. He is Arulalan in His Paramapatha Kingdom. As He is also with us for ever pouring HIS grace, He is called Perarulalan here in Thirusemponsei. Thayar Alli Mamalar Nachiar is gracing the devotees along with Bhoodevi.Thirumangai Azhwar says that worshipping Perarulaalan here is as equal as worshipping all three Perumals at Srirangam, Tirupati and Athigiri.
Divyadesam Blessing for Wealth
Once there was a Brahmin named Kashyabar lived in Kancheepuram. He lost all his wealth and became very poor. One day his son named Mukundhan left from Kancheepuram for earning money and some how he reached Thirusemponsei Divyadesam and met a sage. The sage preached him Ashtaakshara Manthraam and as advised by the sage, Mukundhan chanted the mantra for 33,000 times in front of the Almighty Perarulaalan in just 3 days. Delighted Almighty guided him to find out treasure full of Gold and blessed him with all wealth. Perarulaalan to be worshipped to get rid of Poverty.
Thiru Sempon Sei Divyadesam - The Legend for the Name
Sreerama after killing the Demon Ravana, while returning to his Kingdom Ayodhya stayed for sometimes in the hermitage of Sage Dhrudhanethrar. As advised by the sage, to get rid of the Brahmahatthi Dhosham, Sreeramar made a Golden Cow, entered into it and performed a penance for four days. Then on the fifth day he came out of the Cow. The Golden Cow was then donated to raise funds to build this Thirusemponsei. Since the temple was built by the funds raised by donating the Golden Cow, named as Thiru Sempon Sei. Sempon means Pure Gold, Sei means made of. The Temple built from the Pure Gold. Devotees who worship the Perarulaalan here Thirusemponsei will be relieved of from their poverty and get blessed with good jobs and progress financially. Aipasi Brahmmotsavam is being celebrated in the months of October and November on the Swathi Nakshatra Day, the Birth Star of Perumal. On the day following Thai Amavasya, New Moon day in January / February, Perumal of this temple joins the 11 Garudaseva festival – 11 Perumals coming in procession on Garudalwar. Dasavathara paintings on the walls of the temples are eye catching one and should not be missed out. Lord Shiva performed Ekadasa AShwamedha Yaga here.
